"Calm blue ocean, calm blue ocean"
(written over the urinal)

Most of the people who walk into 7B for the first time admit to having a weird feeling of deja vu. This is understandable since 7B has been used in several films (Godfather II, Serpico, Crocodile Dundee...) and imitated in many others. Most of the people I have introduced to 7B had to be dragged in kicking and screaming, but after a few hours they refuse to leave. I guess the popularity of 7B is easy to understand. The crowd is unvaryingly diverse: old men, underage kids, artists, musicians, celebrities, nobodys and the unavoidable Upper Eastsiders out for an "adventure" in Alphabet City. The jukebox is easily one of the best in NYC; that is, if you like punk. A perfect compliment to the jukebox is the three (that's right! THREE!) pinball machines in the back of the bar.

If you haven't already been able to tell, 7B is a favorite amongst me and my minions. "Calm blue ocean, calm blue ocean" is more than just advice to the pee shy. The surprisingly laid-back atmosphere of 7B makes it one of the best places in New York to have an afternoon drink, start a long evening or end a long evening. There is nothing like playing hokey from work and watching a Yankees game while sitting at the horseshoe bar. Weekend evenings can be a bit hectic, but if you can secure a seat, tolerable. Check it out some time (as long as you're not from the Upper East or West Sides).
