Once upon a time some weird looking guys walked into a Bowery dive and asked the owner if their band could play there. The owner said OK, and the NYC punk scene found its Mecca.

Well, maybe not exactly... but for all intents and purposes, it's close enough. Hilly Kristal's CBGBs (Country Blue Grass and Blues) became the home of the NYC punk movement. Its place in infamy is secure.

History is great and all, but there is something weird about seeing Japanese tourists taking pictures of the grand old dump. CBs still gets some good bands but they are usually few and far between. Going there is more of a novelty than anything else.
