The East Village

I am the first to admit that the East Village isn't what it used to be. I've only lived in NYC for a few years, but even to me the changes have been noticeable. Constant weekend invasions by Upper Eastsiders, Westsiders and various New Jersey residents out for "adventure" have had an erosion effect on the area. The area is being sucked dry of its "cool" at an ever increasing rate. Dives are being replaced by theme bars, artists are being forced into the outer boros by skyrocketing rents and rock stars have to travel all the way to Avenue D to buy heroin. What's next? Brew pubs? I shudder at the thought. I still find the East Village enjoyable, but I am disconcerted by increasing rate of J.Crew boys and blondes with lobotomy eyes. I'm just trying to enjoy what's left.
