Korova Milk Bar
200 Avenue A,
between 12th and 13th Streets

The Korova Milk Bar's hey-day is over, the novelty has worn thin. With decor is based on the hoodlum hangout in "A Clockwork Orange," the bar originally started a tremendous word-of-mouth stir. White female manikins hanging from black painted walls, clusters of televisions playing movies like "Heavy Metal" and "The Crush," make the patrons feel like they stepped into a fictional underground club in some slick Hollywood production; too bad the crowd doesn't match.

Last night I was there with several friends for a quick drink before playing pool at Le Q. Judith, who was visiting from Australia and had never been to Korova before, mentioned that maybe they should add a few naked male manikins to match the female. Clare, with her typically impeccable timing and deadpan delivery, replied "Nah, there's enough male dummies at the bar."

Too true.

I'd only come back to show it to some out-of-town friends who would enjoy the kitsch.
