Formerly the Avenue B Social Club, Manitoba's is owned and operated by Richie Manitoba (formerly "Handsome Dick," singer of the Dictators. Handsome Dick gained notoriety when he was brained by a microphone stand after heckling Wayne/Jayne County). Manitoba's is slightly more expensive than the surrounding bars, but not to the point where you would avoid it all together. Its location is perfect, across the street from 7B and minutes from Ace Bar, Sophie's, Lakeside Lounge and Drinkland. Weekends: Manitoba's occasionally features live music and, music or not, is VERY crowded. Therefore I suggest checking out the basement. Several times I have gone to Manitoba's, hopelessly fought through an insurmountable crowd, only to reach the stairs and find the basement empty (a word of warning: sometimes they don't realize how loud they're blasting the stereo downstairs. It can get pretty loud.). Overall, a decent place for a drink but not my ideal location for a hangout.
