Local 138
138 Ludlow Street,
between Stanton and Rivington Streets

As we sat down last night, my friend Jen said "I thought this place would have more of a Labour or a Union theme." " Workers Unite," Local 138 is not. As my friend Nancy said "Wow, this seems like a bar you'd find in the suburbs." The suburbs or at least Union Square. Local is annoyingly clean. I accidentally knocked over a candle, spilling wax on the table. I felt like I HAD to clean it up. Drinks are expensive (a ginger-ale costs $2) and the music is suspect (an hour of Sade is pushing it in my book). The clientele is uniformly ugly, both in their appearance and attitude. A leeringly intoxicated, thirty something suit wearing bozo, practicing golf swings in the middle of a crowded bar (while mildly amusing) is hardly the company I like to keep. The best part of the evening came when, getting up from the extraordinarily uncomfortable wall bench, we walked out the door.

We went back tonight, hoping that it would be better during the week (as opposed to the weekend). It wasn't.
My previous rating stands.
