As we sat down last night, my friend Jen said "I thought this place
would have more of a Labour or a Union theme." " Workers
Unite," Local 138 is not. As my friend Nancy said "Wow, this
seems like a bar you'd find in the suburbs." The suburbs or at least
Union Square. Local is annoyingly clean. I accidentally knocked over a
candle, spilling wax on the table. I felt like I HAD to clean it up.
Drinks are expensive (a ginger-ale costs $2) and the music is suspect (an
hour of Sade is pushing it in my book). The clientele is uniformly ugly,
both in their appearance and attitude. A leeringly intoxicated, thirty something
suit wearing bozo, practicing golf swings in the middle of
a crowded bar (while mildly amusing) is hardly the company I like to keep.
The best part of the evening came when, getting up from the extraordinarily
uncomfortable wall bench, we walked out the door. |

We went back tonight, hoping that it would be better during the week (as
opposed to the weekend). It wasn't.
My previous rating stands. |
